Spinner
and or lure fishing is a fun way to catch trout. This
form of fishing taps into the trout’s aggressive
behavior. Trout like to chase and are curious. They will
often get caught on lures and spinners because as they
chase or trail it, as a parting shot, they will take a
quick bite at it. Also, they will hit these baits out of
reaction, making a quick decision to take it. I have
found that casting up stream and reeling back down just
a little faster than the current is a deadly technique.
Again, trout wait for food to come to them on the
flowing current and this technique plays into that.

The spinners
and lures need to be small for the streams we fish around here.
Depending on where you fish, and the size of the fish,
adjustments need to be made. There are several types of bass
plugs that are productive for trout and experimenting to find
what works well is part of the fun. I like to keep these types
of baits small in size, because that has worked well.
As for the
spinners, in-line spinners are more the norm for trout, again
small in size. I have never had any luck with overhead spinners
and really haven’t found any small enough actually. Spinning
rods that are light with light line work well and are a lot of
fun too. Makes fighting the trout very enjoyable.
